“Five Star Experience”
We stayed at Arbor Guest House for two days, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The decor was beautiful, the bed was comfortable and beautifully appointed, the housekeeping impeccable, and the attention to detail demonstrated our innkeepers focus on their guests. The delicious breakfasts, the wine and hors d'oeuvres in the afternoon, even the in-room coffee all made for a comfortable and memorable two day stay! |
Experience Serenity at our Timeless Estate
The Arbor Guest House Bed & Breakfast has three suites in the main house and two suites in the Carriage House. The Innkeepers
It became a dream of ours to own and run an Inn since our first stay at a bed & breakfast in 1993. In 2001, after raising our children in the San Francisco bay area, we decided to make the move to Napa Valley. We enjoy meeting new people and treat all of our guests as if they were extended family. From making restaurant reservations to setting up an early morning balloon ride, we strive to make your stay unforgettable. We look forward to meeting you!

History
William F. Rumble built the Arbor Guest House.
Rumble, a farmer in Plainwell, Michigan, moved to Sonoma in 1883. His wife, Sarah, and daughter, Jessie, joined him in 1884. After several years of living with an uncle, Obediah Chart, a Sonoma vintner and landowner, the Rumbles moved to Napa. In 1887, they bought the land on which the Arbor Guest House now sits. William was a lather-a trade which served him well as he built his new home. He finished building the house in 1905.
In the mid-1880s, the Rumbles became members of the Salvation Army. They were founding members of the Napa Corps and among the first members of the faith in northern California. For more than sixty years, they worked with orphans, prisoners, and the less fortunate of the community. Their son, Everett, nicknamed “Pat,” once recalled that “…every person in town who needed a handout knew the way to our door. Mom always found some food for them.”
William and Sarah had five children that lived to adulthood- daughters Jessie and Bertha (Rumble) Martin and sons Irvin, John, and Everett (“Pat”.) Daughters Addie and Sarah (“Sadie”) died in childhood. Their son, Ernest, was drafted into the Army in 1917. He was assigned to the Corps of Engineers and sent to France. Two weeks before the end of World War I, he was hit by shrapnel from an explosive device dropped by a German airplane. He died of his wounds nine days before the end of the war and was interred, with full military honors, in Tolucay Cemetery.
Sarah died in 1944, William in 1945. Several Rumble descendants still live in the Napa area.
